May is National Historic Preservation Month, and each year Citizens for Elmhurst Preservation celebrates Elmhurst’s historic places in a variety of meaningful ways. One of our annual traditions is recognizing centennial homes—those that turn 100 years old during the year—by sending homeowners a congratulatory “birthday” card in honor of their home’s milestone.

There was once a time when a homebuyer searching for their new house focused on new construction, often on the outskirts of town, in new developments—but those days are over.
